Senior Facilities

Located in Ramsgate, within easy walking distance of the sea and town, the school is set in a safe, spacious campus of 80 acres.

Cutting-edge facilities and state-of-the-art architecture exist happily alongside the more traditional and very fine late nineteenth-century buildings, reminding staff and pupils alike of the long and well-earned reputation of the College, which successfully blends traditional values with twenty-first-century enterprise.

Dining Hall

Dining Hall

School food is tasty, healthy and there is a wide choice available. We welcome students from a wide range of cultures and are experienced in offering a daily selection of hot and cold vegetarian food, along with dishes that are free of wheat, pork, nuts and beef products. A number of our pupils suffer from food allergies, so all staff are made aware of each child’s needs.

Our Catering staff work hard to provide both quality and variety in the food provided. The College Food Committee, made up of a cross-section of pupils (both day and boarding, senior and junior) and key members of staff, meets regularly to guide decisions and make recommendations. Breakfast, Lunch and Supper are served in the traditional school Dining Hall, with younger pupils (Nursery, Reception and Year 1) being served in the Annexe off the main Dining Hall. All Junior School pupils sit with their teachers during lunch time and with boarding staff for breakfast and supper.

During the school day, Junior pupils are provided with a mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack and encouraged to drink from their water bottles.

We also have a modern coffee shop which is available for use by all parents during the school day, or with their children as a treat after school! Senior pupils are able to purchase snacks at break times and boarders have access to the coffee shop at weekends and in the evenings.

Chapel

St Lawrence College Chapel is set in the heart of the College and seats 300.

Library

Library

The College Library is part of our historic main campus. Alongside the Memorial Chapel, which sits directly above it, it is widely regarded as part of Thanet’s architectural heritage. It was built in 1920 and dedicated to the memory of one hundred Old Lawrentians who perished in the Great War. Though a Grade II listed building, the interior has been refurbished and modernised as necessary. There are three large rooms, all interconnected. The Memorial Library houses fiction and non-fiction up to Dewey ref. 500, and has spaces for group work and comfortable seating for relaxed reading. There is also a seminar room separated by a glass wall, often used for group teaching. The Scott Library – the rest of the non-fiction stock and periodicals – is designated for silent, private study. The Sixth Form Library, also containing the office of the Head of Sixth Form, contains the Careers Library; some additional development is planned to reimagine this room as a distinct space for Sixth Form students.

Our historic library is home to hundreds of books covering an array of topics. This calm space allows pupils to revise and study in a quiet and inspiring environment.

Ensuite Boarding

Ensuite Boarding

Boarding is central to the school’s life and it is one of our great strengths. Strong pastoral care, high-quality teaching and a great emphasis on extra-curricular activity make this a very special community in which to live and learn. A wide range of evening and weekend activities are provided for boarders, along with additional events and fun day trips.

St Lawrence College has three boarding houses. We offer full time and weekly boarding options, and we aim to provide a home-from-home for our boarding pupils, both in terms of comfort and atmosphere. A substantial programme of investment has created exceptional boarding facilities, with all rooms en-suite.

Canon Perfect Centre

The Canon Perfect Centre has light and spacious classrooms and state-of-the-art equipment, which further underlines the school’s commitment to creativity and innovation, providing an inspiring environment to enhance pupils’ learning.

Design Technology workshops are housed on the lower ground floor, followed by two floors of Science classrooms and labs, and Art and Photography studios on the top floor, with huge sliding doors opening onto outside balconies. The building has also been designed to accommodate plenty of exhibition space for showcasing pupils’ work.

The innovative building has been named ‘The Canon Perfect Centre’ after a prominent former pupil and Headmaster of the College who, during his 31-year tenure, oversaw many building projects at the school. The building sees the completion of an academic quad, with a clever, thoughtful design perfectly blending old and new architecture.

Medical Centre

The school’s Medical Centre is open 24 hours a day during term time for routine and emergency treatment for all pupils. Fully qualified nursing staff are on duty at all times and pupils have access to a qualified Counsellor.

Boarding Pupils

The Medical Centre provides nursing facilities for children who are ill and under the care of the School Doctor. The School Doctor calls twice a week – more often if necessary. Hospital treatment and visits to Consultants are arranged through the School Doctor and pupils are accompanied by a known adult.

If a pupil is hospitalised, or detained in the Medical Centre for any length of time, parents and guardians are notified. Frequent visits are made by the Housemaster or Housemistress and other members of staff (and friends, if appropriate).
