Residential Caretaker

Residential Caretaker

We are seeking experienced and dependable Caretakers to join our dedicated Facilities Team at St Lawrence College. These permanent roles are essential to maintaining the safety and upkeep of our campus.

Key Responsibilities:

Secure the premises according to routine procedures

Act as the first point of contact for fire alarm activations outside of normal College hours

Support the maintenance team with general repairs and tasks related to the upkeep of College facilities

Assist with routine compliance checks

Perform reactive repairs to buildings and systems as needed, ensuring issues are addressed promptly until permanent repairs can be made

Essential Requirements:

Ability to work independently, ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard

Previous experience in reactive repairs and general maintenance

Full Driving Licence preferred

SIA qualification (or equivalent) or relevant practical experience is an advantage

Working Hours:

Working hours will be detailed in the Job Description and discussed further during the interview. As the role operates on a shared rota between several caretakers, flexibility is key.

Job Description

Maintenance Team Member

Are you a skilled and motivated individual with a passion for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of educational facilities? St. Lawrence College is seeking a dedicated Maintenance Team Member to join our dynamic team in upholding the highest standards of campus maintenance and support.

To be successful in this role you will be able to work independently to a high standard, taking pride in the quality of work is essential. Experience in fault finding, general plumbing, carpentry and decorating skills are essential.

This is a zero hour contract, therefore work pattern and hours will vary.

Responsibilities:

General Maintenance: Perform repairs on plumbing fixtures (e.g., leaks in bathrooms, showers, toilets), install shelves, fix doors, install locks, tile surfaces, change light bulbs, conduct pool checks, unblock toilets and drains, and handle basic carpentry and painting tasks.

Compliance Testing: Conduct routine checks and compliance testing, including emergency lights, fire extinguishers, external drains and gutters, and fire doors.

Furniture and Equipment Management: Move furniture, boxes, and equipment as needed.

Caretaking Duties: Provide cover for caretaking responsibilities, including potential overnight stays.

Event Support: Assist in setting up and breaking down meeting and conference rooms, especially during exam sessions and school events.

Postal Duties: Handle internal and external deliveries and manage the postal desk at the end of the day.

Contractor Supervision: Oversee contractors as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.

Work Environment Maintenance: Ensure a clean working environment, including the workshop and outdoor tasks. Responsibilities include rubbish and recycling removal, sweeping, mopping, and emergency cleaning as required.

Customer Service: Deliver excellent customer service and provide hands-on assistance when needed.

Health and Safety: All team members are expected to comply with the College’s Health and Safety policies and proactively promote a safe working environment, including wearing personal protective equipment when necessary.

Personal Competencies and Qualifications:

Educated to GCSE or equivalent; technical or vocational training in a related field is a plus.

Proven experience as a maintenance technician or similar role.

Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical systems, and building maintenance.

Proficiency in using a variety of hand and power tools.

Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and blueprints.

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Effective communication and teamwork abilities.

Basic computer skills for record-keeping and communication purposes.

Physical stamina and the ability to perform tasks that may require lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces.

The requirements of this role will necessitate occasional evening and weekend work; this will include providing cover for the Caretaker role as necessary.

Job Description

Catering Services Assistant

Catering Services Assistant 

20 hours per week / 34 weeks per year (term-time plus 2 weeks) 

St Lawrence College is a successful co-educational, day / boarding school for children between the ages of 3 and 18 years.  

We are looking to recruit a Catering Services Assistant to work in our busy kitchen where we prepare food for pupils and staff within the College.  A basic knowledge of food hygiene and preparation with relevant experience is required. 

This role is mainly Monday to Friday, however you would be required to work some evenings and weekends on a rota basis, so a flexible approach is essential. You should enjoy working as part of a busy team and be keen to develop your skills.
