Making a Difference Day 2024

Posted: 27th September 2024

On Friday, 27th September 2024, St Lawrence College hosted its annual Making a Difference Day, an event where pupils and staff come together to serve the wider community. The day was an opportunity to reflect on the importance of supporting those less fortunate and expressing gratitude to the individuals and organisations that make a difference in our lives. From helping those in need to caring for animals and the environment, each Junior School year group was actively involved in various charitable activities and donation drives.

Pre-Prep: Supporting TAG Animal Rescue Sanctuary

Our youngest pupils in Pre-Prep spent the day learning about the care and compassion needed to look after pets. The children were invited to bring in their favourite cuddly toy pets, making it a day of fun and education. In addition, families are encouraged to donate essential items for the TAG Animal Rescue Sanctuary, including cat food, rabbit nuggets, dog beds, toys, bowls, and even towels and fleeces to help keep animals warm and comfortable.

Year 3 and 4: Raising Spirits at the Rainbow Children’s Ward

Year 3 and 4 students turned their attention to the Rainbow Children’s Ward, where they helped to bring joy to children in the hospital. As part of their contribution, the students took part in a sponsored ‘Rainbow Scoot’ to raise money for the ward. Additionally, they donated new toys and arts and crafts materials. The students also wrote letters of gratitude to the dedicated hospital staff who care for the children.

Year 5: Donations for The Hygiene Bank

Year 5 pupils chose to support The Hygiene Bank, a local charity that provides basic hygiene products for individuals and families who cannot afford them. From nappies and baby wipes to shampoo and deodorant, the pupils collected donations to ensure that everyone can access essential hygiene items.

Year 6: Supporting the Fire Service

Year 6 pupils had the exciting opportunity to visit Ramsgate Fire Station, where they took tasty snacks and treats for the hardworking firefighters. Sweets, cakes, tea, coffee, and hot chocolate were all gifted to provide a little extra energy for the team that works tirelessly to keep our community safe.
