St Lawrence College is proud to announce its place on the prestigious shortlist for the Independent School of the Year Awards 2024. This week, the Independent School Parent Magazine revealed...
St Lawrence College has a rich history and a reputation for excellence. The genuine feeling of community is tangible and there is no doubt that the Christian values, boarding ethos, all-through nature of the school and focus on the individual contribute to a feeling of care and compassion that permeates every corner of the campus. It is my honour and privilege to be leading such an outstanding school.
Welcome From the Head of the College
βSince starting here, I have become better at speaking English, have developed more in Art and have achieved a good effort in Games β I am hoping to join the school badminton team.β
"My school is wonderful and I would recommend it to others who feel like they need the opportunity to spread their wings a little moreβ
βFrom the very first day I discovered many new opportunities. For example, I played paintball with the teachers and swam in the house swimming competition. And, even after one year at St Lawrence, I canβt say Iβve tried everything that this school offers! β
"You very easily and quickly get into a daily routine and make close friends. ItΒ΄s been a lot of fun being at St Lawrence. Joining this school has been one of the best decisions of my life."
βMy children have continued through their school years with respect for others, understanding of different cultures, the ability to hold conversations with different peer groups and with adults.β
"Sam lights up when he tells us what he has been up to at the School and the regular exeat weekends mean that as parents we never feel far away"
βAll of the Staff in the Junior School are magnificent. The self-confidence and happiness my daughter has gained since starting at St Lawrence College has been wonderful to see.β
"When I look back on my time at school, it is clear that St Lawrence was always very grounded and realistic. St Lawrence produced the Head of the Army and the Head of the Police and that, in many ways, says something about the benefits of a St Lawrence education."
"For me, being at St Lawrence wasnβt just about receiving an academic education, although the aim was to leave with at least a couple of A-levels! We were also educated in essential life skills, either absorbed by the environment or learned in our extra-curricular activities. Basic manners were an expectation; holding the door for someone, being respectful to the teachers, obeying the rule to not walk on Chapel Green and in doing this you learned to be respectful and conscientious towards others."
"I loved the creative aspects of my time at SLC. I was involved in some of the performances and productions such as; the House talent shows, the SLC Ale festivals, various productions and musicals."
"When I look back over my life to date, I can see that St Lawrence College has always played a part in some way. When I started at the Junior School, my father and grandfather were already teaching there. My uncle and sister have been there too. The activities at the School had the biggest impact on me as I got to try so many different things. CCF had a particularly big influence on me. I loved adventurous activities, sport, being outdoors and problem solving."

β¨ What an incredible adventure! Last week, seventy-two pupils from St Lawrence College`s Year 9 to Year 12 participated in the exhilarating Combined Cadet Force (CCF) Summer Camp at St Martin Plain Camp near Folkestone.
Under the leadership of Major Nick Hill and supported by eight dedicated staff members, our cadets immersed themselves in a week of skill-building and camaraderie. They tackled everything from stand up paddle boarding and mountain biking (with some puncture repair lessons thrown in!) to field craft skills and rifle shooting. π£ββοΈπ΄ββοΈπ―

π We are almost at the end of our Summer Term and what a busy one it has been so far!
Our Year 11 pupils recently celebrated the end of their exams with a lively BBQ on Chapel Green - a wonderful gathering of pupils, tutors and teachers. It was especially memorable as it marked the students` final appearance in their traditional school uniforms before transitioning to Sixth Form.
Mr Ben Pennells, Deputy Head Academic, praised the students for their hard work: βWell done to all for completing their exams. Enjoy your summer break!β ππ

We`re thrilled to share an update on our prestigious Exchange Programme with St Benedict`s College in South Africa. This unique initiative, tailored for elite boys from the Sports Excellence Programme, spans six weeks and facilitates an annual exchange of six Lower Sixth Form students from each school.
π¬πFreddie, a rugby player, shares: βThe experience at St Benedictβs has been incredible. From the welcoming atmosphere to the electrifying first team rugby matches, every moment has been unforgettable. Playing with the passionate support of the whole school was overwhelming. Off the pitch, I`ve enjoyed making new friends, trying new foods, and attending fascinating lessons like Afrikaans and sustainable hunting. This experience will stay with me forever.β
π¬π Nana, a hockey player, adds: βBeing part of the Bennies culture has been amazing, from war cry practices to boarding house trips. On the field, our team showed great resilience, securing four wins, two draws, and a loss. The crowd`s energy, especially during our win against King Edwardβs School, was indescribable. Off the field, activities like bowling, arcade trips, and visiting Loftus Stadium have balanced the intensity of training and matches. These past weeks have been busy but fantastic, and I look forward to more memorable moments.β

πβ¨ Last week, St Lawrence College proudly hosted 27 students from Dr. Albert Schweitzer Havo/Vwo (ASHV) School, CuraΓ§ao, an island in the Caribbean Sea.
Accompanied by three teachers, they explored the local area and participated in activities with our senior boarders. The visit included a warm welcome supper, tours of the College, a cricket session with Ed Foster, and a presentation about Curaçao. The students also enjoyed a lively football game, a climbing wall activity, and a memorable farewell BBQ.
Special thanks to our Upper Sixth champions, senior boarders, Housemasters, and Housemistress for making our guests feel at home. Deputy Head Pastoral Mr Tom Moulton praised the exchange, highlighting the enriching cultural and educational experiences. Here`s to the growing bond between our schools!
