A Time to Reflect, Reset and Grow
For many, Easter signals the arrival of spring, lighter evenings, and a much-needed pause after a busy term. At St Lawrence College, Easter carries deeper meaning — not just as a holiday, but as a season of reflection, renewal and growth.
Rooted in our Christian ethos, the Easter period invites our whole school community — pupils, staff and families alike — to pause. Whether through chapel services, quiet moments of personal reflection, or simply a change in rhythm, Easter gives us all an opportunity to reset, refocus and consider what really matters.
More Than a Break
While the three-week Easter holiday is, practically speaking, a time for rest and reconnection, it also provides something more subtle: stillness.
In the busyness of school life — with lessons, rehearsals, matches, prep and weekend commitments — stillness can be hard to come by. For younger pupils, the break offers space to play, imagine and explore. For older pupils, especially those preparing for exams, it can be a moment to breathe, reflect and find perspective amid pressure.
At St Lawrence College, we believe that personal growth happens in these quieter spaces just as much as in the classroom. Stillness is not wasted time. It is where self-awareness, resilience and even creativity begin.
Christian Values in Everyday Life
While not all pupils at St Lawrence identify as Christian, the values at the heart of Easter — compassion, forgiveness, renewal, hope — speak to everyone.
These values aren’t just taught in Religious Studies or observed in chapel; they are lived out in the way our pupils support one another, engage with the world around them, and reflect on their own place within it. Whether through small acts of kindness or larger service projects, Easter is a natural time to ask: What kind of person do I want to be? How can I use what I’ve been given to help others?
Reflection at Every Age
We encourage pupils of all ages to engage in age-appropriate reflection — not just on faith, but on character, intention, and progress.
- In the Junior School, pupils might explore the themes of Easter through stories, art or outdoor learning, thinking about how to show kindness and curiosity in daily life.
- In the Senior School, tutor time and chapel services create space for deeper discussion — about values, purpose and belonging.
- In the Sixth Form, pupils are encouraged to connect reflection with action, considering how they want to contribute to their communities both now and beyond school.
Reflection doesn’t need to be grand. Sometimes, it’s simply about stopping long enough to notice growth — in ourselves, and in others.
A Community of Renewal
St Lawrence College is a school rooted in tradition but shaped by modern values. Our Christian foundation helps us create a community where every pupil is encouraged to grow — academically, personally and spiritually — regardless of their background or beliefs.
This Easter, we hope that all our pupils take time to rest, reconnect, and look ahead with purpose and hope. And when the summer term begins, we don’t just return ready to work — we return rebalanced, re-energised, and renewed in spirit, ready to make the most of what comes next.
