At St Lawrence College, we are proud to be an international community that celebrates the diverse cultures, values, and traditions our students bring from across the globe. As we usher in Lunar New Year 2025, we take this opportunity to celebrate the global significance of this festive season, observed by millions in countries like China, Vietnam, Korea, and many more. In Chinese culture, this year marks the Year of the Snake, a symbol of wisdom, intuition, and grace in the Chinese zodiac.
One of the most exciting parts of our celebrations is the participation of the Beijing Chaoyang Experimental Primary School students, who are currently studying in the UK at St Lawrence College. Their involvement brings an authentic touch to the Lunar New Year celebrations, and we are thrilled to have them with us this year. In a special gesture, they shared a heartfelt message with the school community, which we are delighted to feature here:
“Happy Lunar New Year from all the students in the ninth cohort of Beijing Chaoyang Experimental Primary School studying in the UK at St Lawrence College! Wishing everyone all the best and lasting happiness forever.”
Under the guidance of their appointed guardians, our Beijing Chaoyang students played an integral role in our Chinese Enrichment Day, sharing their traditions and celebrations with fellow pupils in the most wonderful way. The day was filled with engaging, educational activities, such as paper cutting activities, making wish dumplings, cultural painting, and Jianzi (shuttlecock kicking). It was a fun and educational experience that helped deepen understanding of Chinese culture and traditions.
This special day not only allowed students to immerse themselves in the traditions of the Lunar New Year, but also gave us a glimpse into the celebrations enjoyed by many cultures around the world. The activities fostered a greater appreciation for cultural diversity within our community and encouraged cross-cultural learning.
We are excited to share images from this memorable day, showcasing the joy, creativity, and sense of togetherness that filled the school. From hands-on activities to lively performances and delicious food, the event truly captured the spirit of the Lunar New Year.
As we reflect on this Lunar New Year, we are reminded of the importance of celebrating diversity and fostering an inclusive community. At St Lawrence College, we believe that learning from one another’s cultures enriches our educational experience and prepares our students for a globalised world. We wish all our families, friends, and the St Lawrence College community a prosperous, healthy, and successful Year of the Snake.
Happy Lunar New Year from St Lawrence College!
