On Friday 21st June, our Year 6 children dazzled the audience with their final performance of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” to their families and friends, following one dress rehearsal where they performed to the whole of the Junior School, and one matinee.
The Year 6 teachers chose “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” for this year’s production because it provided a fantastic opportunity to showcase the children’s singing talents. Moreover, the diverse cast of characters fits perfectly with the year group’s dynamic.
The children have been hard at work preparing for this production since Easter. The dedicated efforts of the Year 6 teachers, Mr Brown, Mrs Lasslett, and Mr Marsh, along with Mrs Caddick from the Music Department and singing teacher Greg Tassell, have brought this vibrant musical to life.
Hudson, playing the lead role of Joseph, has shown remarkable talent and dedication, impressing everyone with his portrayal. The main roles and the other talented children playing them are listed below.
Mr Baxter has crafted the impressive sets, while the Year 6 students have taken on the responsibility of making most of the props. The costumes are a delightful mix of the children’s own creations and items sourced from the costume store and Amazon.
Music and choreography are integral parts of the production. Mrs Caddick has coordinated the music with a band consisting of Adrian Brown on guitar, Edward Greenhalgh on piano, and Chris Hall on drums. The choreography, created by Sophia from Year 6, added an extra layer of vibrancy to the show.
Rehearsals have been filled with memorable moments. There was an instance where the set fell over, the Pharaoh missed his cue due to an urgent dash to the loo, and the first time Hudson sang “Close Every Door to Me,” there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
The teachers and children are incredibly proud of this production. The Year 6 children have really taken ownership of the musical, making props, suggesting costumes, and diligently learning their lines. The teachers have facilitated this process with energy, enthusiasm, and their unique skills, ensuring that the children have an experience they will always remember. Well done everyone!
