Year 6 Boys’ Creative Endeavour Earns National Recognition
In a triumphant moment for St Lawrence College Junior School, a group of Year 6 boys emerged victorious in their category at the ‘UK Design Challenge 2024’ finals last week hosted by Bett. Their innovative approach to reducing food waste not only captured the attention of the judges but also secured top honours in the competition.
Revolutionizing our School Canteen: A Winning Idea
Motivated by their concern about the significant food waste within the school, the boys’ winning project centred around a unique sticker and scrape-away system. Their solution, which allows students to request smaller portions and aids servers in identifying these preferences, has proved to be a game-changer.

National Recognition and Future Aspirations
Everyone at St Lawrence College is really proud of the hard work and dedication that the boys have put into this project and they really do deserve the recognition they have received. This victory has bolstered their commitment to making their food waste reduction initiative a widespread practice in schools across the country. Plans are underway to engage with catering companies and advocate for the adoption of their effective system. We can’t wait to see what the future has instore for Algie, Remi, Johnny and Reuben.
