At our recent “Making a Difference Day,” the entire Junior School community came together to instill the values of giving back, compassion, and responsible citizenship in our students. From the youngest learners in Pre-Prep to our eldest Year 6 students, everyone played a part in creating positive change. Here’s a glimpse of the initiatives that took place on this special day.
Pre-Prep Goes Green: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Our Pre-Prep children embarked on a journey to understand the importance of looking after the environment. They learned about the three Rs – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle – and how these principles can help protect our planet. Their imagination went wild and they built structures and characters out of boxes, bottles and other items that could be found in a household recycling bin.
Year 3-4 Supporting RNLI at Sea
Year 3-4 children decided to focus their efforts on the brave individuals of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) who risk their lives to save others at sea. They prepared and donated essential snacks to the RNLI, ensuring that these heroes have the sustenance they need during their demanding missions. It’s a small gesture that speaks volumes about the empathy our children hold for those who serve their communities. They were also lucky enough to hear from an RNLI speaker who let them get kitted out in the on board gear from a real lifeboat.
Year 5’s Generous Donation to Shoe Aid
Year 5 took a step towards helping those in need by collecting and donating shoes to Shoe Aid. This act of kindness not only provides footwear to those who may be less fortunate but also fosters an awareness of the importance of empathy and giving. Our children recognize that even a simple pair of shoes can make a significant difference in someone’s life.
Year 6’s Support for the Salvation Army Food Bank
Year 6 children collected the generously donated items to donate to the Salvation Army Food Bank. This contribution ensures that those facing food insecurity in our community receive much-needed support.
As we reflect on the accomplishments of Making a Difference Day, we’re filled with pride and optimism about the future. These experiences will undoubtedly shape the compassionate and caring leaders of tomorrow. We remain committed to nurturing a sense of social responsibility and inspiring our children to make a difference, one act of kindness at a time.
