School Governor Reverend Gordon Warren – 13 May 1945 to 16 July 2020
A tribute by Mrs Rowe – Head of the Junior School
It is with sadness that I write to inform our community of the passing away of Reverend Gordon Warren on the 16 July 2020 at the local Pilgrims Hospice, following a short battle with cancer.
Rev. Warren was a most distinguished, committed and passionate Governor who took great pleasure in being part of the SLC Community. He rarely missed a single Junior School Friday Assembly or Chapel Service and when he did it was only as a result of his naval duties, various commitments in London including as a Warden of the Worshipful Company of Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers, or his Chaplaincy for cruise ships which took him overseas.
Rev. Warren had tremendous energy and in the four years that I have known him, he blessed our Prayer Space, attended our Parents’ & Staff Prayer Meetings and helped lead our Christian faith across our broad curriculum. He was modest in his achievements and strong in his commitment to excellence in education, being both a Governor at St Lawrence College and a Governor at Cyril Jackson State Primary School in Limehouse London. This dichotomy of schools exemplifies what I have learnt from Rev. Warren, that to live a truly Christian life we must reach out and help others. Before reading the Bible he would always say “I will read from God’s love letter to us”.
This photograph above was taken on Remembrance Day 2018 when Rev. Warren accepted our invitation to represent the military from across the world and presented a wreath at our Junior School commemoration of 100 years since the armistice of WWI.
I will dearly miss his Christian teachings, his leadership, governance, moral compass, guidance, energy, friendship and, perhaps above all else, his cheery smile every time he arrived at SLC.
Our thoughts are with his family at this time.
